Description

Curious how to better understand the impact of your arts education programs? Refine how you think, talk, and write about your programs, and develop/refine tools that assess what your students are learning.

Arts for All and WestEd are pleased to partner again to offer half-day professional development sessions in the month of February!

Topic 1: Arts Assessment –Rubrics and Observation Protocols
Come and roll up your sleeves and work with WestEd to create arts education rubrics and observation protocols to use in your classrooms. All participants will leave the workshop with a solid draft, if not fully completed, assessment tool. Participants are also welcome to bring existing tools for feedback and revisions. The session is open to classroom teachers, teaching artists, arts education program managers, and education administrators.

Topic 2: Program Evaluation 101**
(**NOTE: Prior attendance at rubrics/observation protocols, or a previous Arts for All/WestEd workshop, is required. Unsure if you qualify? Contact Karla Duarte at kduarte@arts.lacounty.gov)
This free, half-day professional development session builds on the arts assessment seminars and workshops that have been offered over the past two years. It is designed to give you practical strategies to create your own evaluation strategies, or improve those you already have in place. Topics covered include:

  • Evaluation v. Student Assessment: What is the relationship between the two? How can evaluation be used?
  • Data Collection: How do you frame useful, practical evaluation questions? What's the difference between quantitative and qualitative methods?
  • Logistics: How can you store and track your own data? What should you look for in partnering with an external evaluator? And what the heck is a logic model?
